1 Meningococcal Vaccines : Current Status and 2 Emerging Strategies 3

چکیده
Neisseria meningitidis causes most cases of bacterial meningitis. Meningococcal meningitis 8 is a public health burden to both developed and developing countries throughout the world. There 9 are a number of vaccines (polysaccharide-based, glycoconjugate, protein-based and combined 10 conjugate vaccines) that are approved to target five of the six disease-causing serogroups of the 11 pathogen. Immunization strategies have been effective at helping to decrease the global incidence 12 of meningococcal meningitis. Researchers continue to enhance these efforts through discovery of 13 new antigen targets that may lead to a broadly protective vaccine and development of new methods 14 of homogenous vaccine production. This review describes current meningococcal vaccines and 15 discusses some recent research discoveries that may transform vaccine development against N. 16 meningitidis in the future. 17

Need for Optimisation of Immunisation Strategies Targeting Invasive Meningococcal Disease in the Netherlands
Invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) is a severe bacterial infectious disease with high mortality and morbidity rates worldwide. In recent years, industrialised countries have implemented vaccines targeting IMD in their National Immunisation Programmes (NIPs). In 2002, the Netherlands successfully implemented a single dose of meningococcal serogroup C conjugate vaccine at the age of 14 months a...

The 3 patients infected with W135 in our study did not receive bivalent meningococcal vaccines. W135 meningococcal disease appears to be an emerging problem that should be investigated epidemiologically. These patients highlight the need for further epidemiologic surveillance to monitor changes in the incidence of meningococcal disease caused by W135 and for improved public health disease contr...
متن کاملImmunological Aspect of Meningococcal disease: An overview in Host- Bacteria Interaction
Meningococcal disease remains a significant global public health and is unique among causes of bacterial meningitis and sepsis where it not only causes sporadic disease but also outbreaks. Meningococcal disease has a rapid onset with high mortality. The understanding of immunopathogenesis is crucial for development of novel therapeutic strategies and vaccines designed against meningococcal dise...
متن کاملCost-effectiveness of alternate strategies for childhood immunization against meningococcal disease with monovalent and quadrivalent conjugate vaccines in Canada
BACKGROUND Public health programs to prevent invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) with monovalent serogroup C meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV-C) and quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccines (MCV-4) in infancy and adolescence vary across Canadian provinces. This study evaluated the cost-effectiveness of various vaccination strategies against IMD using current and anticipated future pri...
متن کاملMeningococcal conjugate vaccines policy update: booster dose recommendations.
The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Academy of Pediatrics approved updated recommendations for the use of quadravalent (serogroups A, C, W-135, and Y) meningococcal conjugate vaccines (Menactra [Sanofi Pasteur, Swiftwater, PA] and Menveo [Novartis, Basel, Switzerland]) in adolescents and in people at persistent high...
